Air compressors are potentially dangerous equipment, which if not used correctly can cause serious injury to the user. The user bears sole responsibility for any damage or injury that may result from the use of the compressor for any purpose other than it was intended. Air compressors should not be operated by persons under 16 years of age, or persons whose stature and strength will prevent the safe operation of the compressor.

Take care when selecting tools for use with the compressor. Air tool manufacturers normally express the volume of air required to operate a tool in cubic feet per minute (cfm). This refers to free air delivered by the compressor (‘air out’) which varies according to the pressure setting. Do not confuse this with the compressor displacement which is the air taken in by the compressor (‘air in’). ‘Air out’ is always less than ‘air in’ due to losses within the compressor. Be sure to take into account the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) requirements of your air tool, which will need to be lower than the CFM of your compressor. High CFM ratings mean a compressor can provide more air, making higher CFM units more practical for larger applications.

Take care to transport the compressor correctly, do not overturn it or lift it with hooks or ropes. Remove the plastic transit plug from the oil filler hole and replace it with the filler/breather plug. It is a push fit, ensure that it is pushed fully home.Before using the compressor, check the oil level by observing the sight glass. If the oil is not up to the max mark it should be topped up with synthetic oil suitable for temperatures ranging from -5°C to 45°C (viscosity 5W50). We do not recommend using mineral oil in these compressors. Do not overfill.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension lead suitable for outdoor use.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) recommends the use of an RCD to reduce the risk of fatal shock. For electrical safety it is recommended to always fit an RCD when you use power tools. You can have an RCD fitted to protect a particular circuit as part of the socket outlet between the socket outlet and the equipment being used. For greater safety when using electrical equipment use a residual current device (RCD). Care in use is still necessary.

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating this equipment. Do not use when you are under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the compressor may result in serious personal injury.
