A pillar drill, sometimes known as a pedestal drill, bench drill or drill press, is a fixed style of drill that is either bolted to the floor or mounted on a stand or workbench. A drill press consists of a base, column (or pillar), table, spindle and drill head, usually driven by an induction motor. This type of drill has more torque and is far more accurate than a hand held drill. Suitable for industrial, agricultural and woodwork applications, these models offer multiple speed drives and access to drive belts is denied during operation by mechanical protection.
A pillar drill is a vital addition to any workshop and comes in a variety of models for varying needs. Some of the Sealey models come with an integrated work light providing illumination over the work table. Bench mounted models are more compact, saving space in a smaller workshop and are more portable. Floor mounted models stand alone and do not take up valuable space on the work bench.
