DEMOLITION HAMMER BREAKER SAFETY

WARNING:
Before attempting to operate the Sparky K1640 1500w Demolition Hammer Breaker the following basic safety precautions should always be taken to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury.  Carefully read through the entire instruction manual before using your new Sparky power tool to understand the application, limitations and potential hazards associated with this tool. Take special care to heed the warnings. Your Sparky power tool has many features that will make your job faster and easier. Safety, performance, and dependability have been given top priority in the development of this tool, making it easy to maintain and operate.

Breaker hammers are potentially dangerous machines, which if not used correctly can cause serious injury to the user, bystanders and damage to property.

This Sparky K1640 demolition breaker hammer is intended for chipping, chasing, scaling and demolition and should not under any circumstances be used for any other purpose.

The user bears sole responsibility for any damage or injury that may result from the use of the breaker hammer for any purpose other than that for which it was intended.

Breaker hammers should not be operated by persons under 16 years of age, or persons whose stature and strength will prevent the safe operation of the breaker.

Always ensure that the breaker hammer is disconnected from the mains before carrying out any maintenance, cleaning, replacement of bits, or any adjustments or maintenance.

Be sure that the bit is secured in place before operation.

Under normal operation, the demolition hammer breaker is designed to produce vibration. Securing screws can vibrate loose easily, causing a breakdown or accident. Check the tightness of all screws carefully before and during operation.

In cold weather or when the tool has not been used for a long time, let the tool warm up for a while by operating it under no load. This will thin the grease and improve lubrication.

Operate your breaker only after having positioned the demolition tool on your work surface. Stop hammer immediately when the material breaks up.

Use only short strikes (a maximum of 10-20 seconds), then remove hammer and choose new angle or position of attack. If the tool heats up, allow the tip or cutting edge to air-cool.

Use a gradual approach to breaking up material section by section. Start at the edge of large pieces, then work in towards centre.

Tool reconditioning: Dull tips or edges or damaged tools can be reconditioned with milling, planing or lathing.

WARNING

Two handed operation required. This machine requires the use of two hands to ensure safe operation.

When using power tools that can expose the operator to high levels of vibration, it is possible that the operator might develop “vibration white finger disease” (Raynaud syndrome). This condition can reduce the sensitivity of the hand to temperature as well as producing general numbness. Prolonged or regular users of breaker hammers should monitor the condition of their hands and fingers closely. If any of the symptoms become evident, seek immediate medical advice.

Hold the breaker hammer using the insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden cables. Contact with “live” cables will cause exposed metal parts of the tools to become “live” and could result in the operator receiving an electric shock.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension lead suitable for outdoor use.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) recommends the use of an RCD to reduce the risk of fatal shock. For electrical safety it is recommended to always fit an RCD when you use power tools. You can have an RCD fitted to protect a particular circuit as part of the socket outlet between the socket outlet and the equipment being used. For greater safety when using electrical equipment use a residual current device (RCD). Care in use is still necessary.

PERSONAL SAFETY

Wear ear protectors when using the breaker hammer for extended periods. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise can cause hearing loss.

Wear a hard hat (safety helmet), safety glasses and/or face shield. Ordinary eye or sunglasses are NOT safety glasses. It is also highly recommended that your wear a dust mask, thickly padded gloves and safety shoes or boots for appropriate conditions to reduce the risk of personal injuries.

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool when you are under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
